1,000 Drones Brought Ultraman Blazer to Life Above Guangzhou

On July 15, 2023, 1,000 Crostars drones rose above the Canton Tower in Guangzhou. By the time they landed, Ultraman Blazer had appeared in the night sky. Full figure, in formation, synchronized to the character’s Chinese theme song.

The Show: 1,000 Drones, One Iconic Hero

The drones arranged themselves into Ultraman Blazer’s full figure, hovering above the Guangzhou skyline. The formation moved through multiple scenes: the hero’s signature poses, an aerial “group photo” with singers Huang Bo and Mao Huafeng, and sequences timed to live music and sound effects. Many in the crowd said they felt like they had stepped into Ultraman’s world.

One viewer wrote: “So this is what Ultraman actually looks like in real life.” Another posted: “I’m genuinely moved. I just wish I could show this to my younger self.”

A Performance That Went Viral

The show generated 300 million online impressions. Major media outlets picked it up without prompting. That reach reflects something real: for a large portion of Chinese audiences, Ultraman is not just a TV character. It is a childhood memory, and this performance landed squarely in that territory.

The Music That Made It Hit Harder

The performance was timed to the release of Ultraman Blazer’s Chinese theme songs. “全力以赴” (Give It Everything) was performed by actor Huang Bo and singer Mao Huafeng. It marked Huang Bo’s first collaboration with an anime IP. The ending theme, “守护之光” (Light of Protection), was performed solo by Mao Huafeng — his third time working with the Ultraman franchise, following Chinese theme songs for Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Trigger. Audience response was strong. Many said the songs were so intense and heartfelt they had them on repeat.

Two Months of Preparation for One Night

Crostars spent two months preparing. The company’s project lead said: “We were thrilled when we received this project. We had been waiting for the new Ultraman Blazer series to launch. The Ultraman theme songs have always been a part of people’s youth. Getting to perform a drone show for the Blazer theme song release felt like an honor. We hope the performance left everyone with a deeper memory.”

The preparation covered concept planning, visual design, coordination with the client, flight programming, site surveying, airspace approval, and drone calibration. Every stage was iterated until the result met the standard the performance required.

Ultraman and Crostars: A History

This was not the first time Crostars had worked with the Ultraman IP. The company had previously taken the project to Japan, lighting up the night sky with a 40-meter drone formation to mark the 55th anniversary of Ultraseven.

The Guangzhou show extended that track record. It also demonstrated what Crostars does best: turning a cultural moment into a shared experience at scale. You can read more about the team’s background and values on the About Us page.

The dense, precise formations in this performance are a product of the C5 System, Crostars’ proprietary drone coordination platform built for exactly this kind of show.
